
News Flash! Ellen completed the Teaching Yoga to Cancer Survivors February 2014!!
Ellen Fostersmith lives in the San Francisco Bay Area and came to yoga in 2006. Yoga was like coming home to a reunion of body, spirit and mind. Ellen decided to share the benefits of yoga with others by completing the Yoga Alliance teacher training in 2010. She updates her training by attending yoga conferences and classes, including biomechanics of yoga, chair yoga, yoga for cancer survivors, completed the Therapeutic Yoga Training Program in August 2013 and Teaching Yoga to Cancer Survivors in February 2014. She brought yoga to her workplace with an after-work weekly class from 2010 to the end of 2012 when she took advantage of early retirement. In 2013, Ellen taught at Purple Monkey Yoga in Union City, and has continued to teach families in their homes. In the fall of 2013, Ellen began assisting Yoga for Cancer Survivors classes in Palo Alto at Samyama Yoga Studio under the direction of Lorein Neargardner. Ellen has since substituted for Lorien at Kaiser Santa Clara and at Samyama . Ellen modifies and adapts yoga poses as needed for her students. She teaches that you do not need to be flexible or young to obtain the benefits of yoga. She stresses that yoga poses are about what happens inside, not how a pose looks on the outside. Practicing yoga safely and with intention are more important than getting into the pose as it may be displayed by a model.
